Europe’s most modern automated waste collection system was opened in Ursvik in North Stockholm 2015.
The system when fully developed will handle the waste from over 6000 homes, schools and other buildings. The inlets will divide into three fractions, Organic, Paper and Residual waste. The pipe system has a total length of 2500 meters and the transport speed is 70 km/h.
The terminal to which the waste is transported is in the southern outskirts of the residential area. The architectural design of the terminal building includes screen-printed, concrete glazed parts and a 250 m2 green wall. It consists of more than 2000 plants.
Tyréns has been involved in planning the system and certification of the terminal building to the level “Excellent” according to BREEAM.
